Chapel in the Pines, Sycamore, IL Wedding Photographer

This wedding is literally what dreams are made of. Brendan & Kay dated back in high school. They broke up, graduated, and moved on with their lives. Kay moved away, Brendan traveled all over the world for years with the military. Then recently, fate brought them back to Sycamore at the same time. They began dating again, and now, 45 years after the first time they dated, they’re married!!

When Kay initially contacted me, she told me how she didn’t care about set up pictures of the dress, the flowers, etc. What she really cared about was their close family and friends who were going to be in attendance at their wedding and having them documented. This made my little documentarian heart sing and I loved being able to photograph authentic moments for these two!

You can read more about their story, told by Kay throughout the rest of the post!

Ceremony & Reception: Chapel in the Pines

How They Met:
Brendan and I dated briefly in high school 45 years ago. He kissed another girl and I ended our relationship. In 2020, we reconnected after both of us ended up at the same location volunteering as judges for a middle school history fair.

The Dress:
I found my dress on Poshmark and it seemed to be made for me. It was not a traditional white dress, elegant but not extravagant. The style matched my best features. I wore the pearl necklace that my grandmother and my mother wore at their weddings.

The Venue:
Chapel in the Pines is a beautiful location hidden in the corn fields. It was just the right size and experience for our celebration.

The Ceremony:
We made sure that our adult children took part in our wedding.

The Reception:
We kept a simple decor.

Advice for couple currently planning their wedding:
